Thomas Note

Welcome back to another edition of the Highwood Bulletin. Our team is in the throes of OGMP 2.0 reporting, with only a month to go before the submission deadline. This year, we’re dialed in, with more rigorous methods and more automation – making the process easier and more thorough than ever before. We’re supporting 14 companies in preparing their analyses and reports, with tens of thousands of facilities spread across 6 continents. BP Faces Shareholder Pushback Over Climate Strategy

BP’s board faced a significant shareholder backlash at its 2026 annual general meeting, with more than 50% of shareholders opposing BP’s plans to scrap climate reporting. The votes prevented the company from implementing the proposed changes and reflect growing investor pressure to maintain climate disclosures and accountability. (Read more)

Golden Pass LNG Begins Shipping

Golden Pass LNG, a joint venture between QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil, has shipped its first export cargo from its Texas terminal. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Golden Pass is the only new U.S. LNG export facility expected to begin shipments in 2026, with a total planned capacity of about 2.0 Bcf/d as the terminal ramps up through 2027. Industry Calls for Amendments to EU Methane Regulation

A coalition of 11 European energy associations has proposed 15 targeted amendments to the EU Methane Regulation, aimed at safeguarding energy security while maintaining environmental ambition. Focusing on importer requirements, the group argues that without these changes, a significant share of oil and gas imports could become non-compliant from 2027, potentially impacting supply. 2024 Canada GHGRP Data Is Now Published

Canada has published 2024 facility-level emissions data under its Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP), making updated datasets available through the federal open data portal. The program collects GHG emissions data annually from facilities across Canada that emit 10 kilotonnes or more of GHGs, in carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2 eq.) units, per year.  (Read more)

Gaps in Alberta Methane Reporting

A new Pembina Institute analysis targets data and regulatory gaps in Alberta’s oil and gas methane emissions framework. The report finds that provincial estimates may underestimate emissions compared to federal inventories that incorporate independent measurements, and highlights issues related to venting, under-regulated sources, and increasing flaring. (Read more)

Highwood Memo 001: Building Methane Data Systems That Can Withstand Verification

The EU Methane Regulation is in force, and verification is coming. The question for every producer supplying Europe: can my reporting survive a reasonable-assurance engagement? For most, the answer is not yet. Waiting for more guidance is one option. Aligning to OGMP 2.0 is another. Both leave the same gap. Our first Highwood Memo walks through what that gap looks like and what it takes to close it before verifiers come knocking. (Read the memo)

New on Monday Morning Methane: Inside Bridger Photonics’ Record Year

In the latest Monday Morning Methane, Thomas sits down with Bridger Photonics COO Joel Baller. They cover Bridger’s record 2025 (including a 24% year-on-year emissions cut across customer portfolios and 48% faster data turnaround), plus the launch of Bridger Command and what the new Highwood-Bridger partnership looks like for operators working on OGMP 2.0 and EUMR. Joel’s view: customers kept investing because methane measurement helps them run tighter operations. Emissions reductions follow. (Listen to the episode)

Emissions Intelligence Platform: May Releases and Updates

Highwood’s Emissions Intelligence Platform (EIP) is the most widely deployed methane reporting and intelligence platform in the world. A couple new features shipped in our latest release. Users can now self-serve data deletes inside Sites and Site Measurement, which means cleaning up records no longer requires going through us. Emission factor setup in the L4 Workflow is faster, since bulk-apply now starts from measurement type selection. And Top-Down Inventory handles inferred non-detects more accurately, so the numbers reflect what was and wasn’t observed on a given measurement day. Want to see what else EIP can do?
