A Peer-Led Forum Advancing Methane Mitigation and Analysis
Methane Analytics Collaborative (MAC)
Oil & gas operators working together at the frontier of methane measurement and mitigation.
Cross-operator learning and solution building
Since 2023, the Methane Analytics Collaborative (MAC) has created a space for open, operator-led discussion on methane challenges. Through MAC, leading oil & gas operators come together quarterly as a peer-led forum to compare experiences, work through shared challenges, and develop practical solutions that advance methane innovation.
Shaped by the real issues that operators are dealing with in their own organizations, MAC enables honest, practical conversation. Members are candid about challenges, grounded in operational experience, and focused on building actionable solutions and practices that will define methane management for the next decade.
How MAC supports operators
Through open exchange and collaborative work, MAC helps its members by:
Fostering cross-operator learning on methane mitigation, measurement, reconciliation, and verification.
Enabling open discussion of challenges, solutions, and lessons learned.
Facilitating practical solutions to meet growing methane MRV demands from emerging regulations and commercial pressures.
Supporting operators in designing and maturing methane mitigation workflows.
Building professional relationships and technical networks across the industry.
What MAC collaboration looks like
MAC members participate in quarterly meetings, oversee technical workstreams, and have contributions recognized in public-facing industry reports.
Members have the option to participate in shared working groups with focuses on technical, operational, and regulatory challenges with the goal of developing practical outputs that include anonymized benchmarks, guidance documents, workflows, or templates.
- Highwood’s role
Supporting the work of MAC
Highwood facilitates MAC and supports its administration, meetings, report publishing, and working groups. We contribute technical and regulatory expertise, facilitate group discussions, and transform project work into shared resources.
Sample topics on the MAC agenda
- Emissions analysis and workflow development to support more effective mitigation, operational excellence, and safety.
- Data management, pipelines, and system integration challenges.
- Understanding emerging regulatory and voluntary methane emissions frameworks and developing reporting pathways that are both rigorous and efficient.
- Preparing for independent assurance by developing robust, scalable, and verifiable reconciliation workflows.
- Data analysis, particularly of methane measurements (e.g., OGI, drone, flyover, CEMS, and satellites), real-world operations, and their correlation to emissions.
- Evaluating and improving data quality.
- Leveraging aggregated and anonymized data to inform and improve methane management programs.
