Month 0-1
What happens
- Define project goals and scope
- Communicate expectations across business units
- Assign project leads and secure resourcing
Phase 2
Prepare, measure, draft
Timeline
Month 1–12
What happens
- Build your Bottom-Up inventory & confirm internal datasets
- Plan and execute source and site-level measurements
- Review mid-year progress and course-correct
- Begin reconciliation and gap identification
This is where timelines often slip — especially if data is incomplete or measurement strategies evolve mid-year as data is reviewed.
Phase 3
Analyze, finalize, report

Month 12-17
What happens
- Develop company-specific emission factors
- Create Level 4 inventory and perform full reconciliation
- Draft and internally align your final report
- Prepare materials for UNEP submission
Phase 4
Submit, respond and wait
Timeline
Month 17-23
What happens
- Submit final report to UNEP (due annually by May 31st)
- Receive feedback and address comments
- Your score appears on UNEP’s annual public fact sheet
- Gold status becomes publicly visible
